Boating Events:

Raft-Ups on Lake Wylie

Raft-ups are popular events with recreational boaters, and our members are not an exception.   A number of boats will tie up on Lake Wylie, usually in a quiet cove, and all participants visit each other, share the drinks they brought and the good food they prepared. It helps when most of the boats are pontoon boats.

We usually leave at 6 p.m. from the Tega Cay Marina. See our Calendar of Events for dates.

Raft-ups are a nice opportunity for members who do not own a boat to join other members on their boats.

Day Trips to Nearby Lakes

Several times each year, our members plan a day trip to one of the nearby area lakes.

  • Our outing to Lake Murray was a great success with a beautiful day, good food and excellent seamanship.
  • P/C Gary McWhirter hosted an outing at his family's lakeside home on Lake Wateree. This turned out to be the perfect day. Four boats were available, and a total of twenty people enjoyed the day. The cookout was great, and was topped off with delicious desserts brought by several members.
  • On the water, it was warm and a bit breezy at times, but overall a good breakout day for boaters getting on the water for the first time this season. It did seem a little odd to see P/C Berry Mobley gently piloting the McWhirter pontoon boat slowly through the water. However, Berry's usual race horse style was assumed by Matt England, who provided thrill rides in his seven passenger, twin jet drive Sea Doo. As this low profile water rocket skimmed the surface, water came over the bow and hats and loose clothing flew over the stern. Exhaust noise prevented any hearing of conversation, but I believe that shotgun riding passenger, Will Jordan, was actually daring Matt to 'kick It'.

All things considered, the day was about as good as it gets, and if you missed it . . . well, You Missed It!
