Membership Benefits

You do not have to own a boat to become a member of the United States Power Squadrons®, but you should love boating!

We are a social organization and you will constantly meet other people who, like you, are interested in boating and cruising.

We provide advanced courses to our members free of charge (cost for materials only).

We are a public boating service organization promoting boating safety.

It’s fun! Boaters are nice people!

Our volunteers are assisting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in updating their oceanographic charts, saving the U.S. Government several million dollars annually.

Because of the aforementioned fact, our individual expenses on behalf of the USPS and the Catawba Squadron are tax deductible. This includes attending National and District meetings, participating in co-op charting, etc.  Our (501(c)(3) status allows you to take these personal tax deductions.

  • The Ensign

Every member receives a free copy of the USPS monthly magazine, the Ensign.

  • Boat Insurance Benefits

Completing America’s Boating Class® or the Squadron Boating Course qualifies for discounts on your boat insurance. Boat insurance is available to members through a system of power squadron member insurance agents. USPS offers marine insurance with low rates and with additional discounts for educational achievements. Call USPS Boat Insurance Program at 1-800-763-8777, or click here to learn more about boat insurance benefits.

  • Port Captains

There is a system of port captains, to whom cruising members away from home may contact to locate reliable repair facilities or inquire about local conditions or to assist you in unfamiliar water and cities. Click here to learn about our Port Captains program.
